Steinitz Biography(Video)

Wilhelm Steinitz (1836-1900) was the first official Chess Champion of the world. Nicknamed "The Austrian Morphy," he gained international prominence by beating unofficial world champion Adolf Anderssen in a match.

Later, after 1873, he would introduce the first "modern positional style" both in his writing and in his play over the board. Arguably, he is the most influential World Chess Champion of all time.

This segment covers Steinitz's match against Henry Bird, the Paris 1867 Congress, the great Baden Baden 1870 tournament, and the London 1872 tournament.
