14th National Educational Chess Association Tournament-Stamford April 28
No one ever thought that an after school chess club would yield a championship chess team.

In their fourth team tournament this year, the Farmingville School chess team placed first out of 20 schools at the 14th National Educational Chess Association Tournament in Stamford, April 28, with a total of 12 points, a full point higher than the runner up, The Children’s School of Stamford.

Timothy Laskoski, Jordan Katz and Parker Laskoski of the Farmingville Elementary School Chess Team hold their first place trophy

There were a total of 100 players in the tournament, split among various age and level divisions.

Parker Laskoski placed first in the first grade division, while Jordan Katz placed third out of 34 in the primary novice section.

Timothy Laskoski had a personal best with an 11th place finish in the primary novice section.

Two other members of the team placed second in the primary open section and fourth in the kindergarten division.

For most members of the team, this is their first or second year playing chess and they are all members of a larger Farmingville School chess club that meets weekly before or after school.
